First Monday in January and I am back to work. It is about 34 degrees out and raining, which made for an interesting commute. Eric and I had a lovely time over the holidays together, and I will miss all of that together time now that it’s back to the routine. But, there is something to be said for routine…I am looking forward to getting back on track with my workouts and with getting back to eating healthy. So, today it’s back to work, back to school, back to the gym. Saturday we took down the Christmas decorations and packed everything away. The house seems so quiet and empty, although that’s the part I love about January.
It was also nice having some time to stitch over the holidays. As you can see, I am making great progress on my New Year’s start. I am so loving stitching on this piece. That last word there is “comfort”. It’s a quote from Emma, so of course I am using my Emma scissors. And that quote is so appropriate for how much I’ve appreciated being home with Eric.
I took a break from At Home with Jane Austen to participate in the mermaid SAL with Anna. I’ll be stitching on this Saturdays or Sundays, with Monday updates. So you can look forward to seeing some progress on this piece each week. It seems like such slow going, but I’m hoping that I’ll start to see more significant progress soon. I am stitching Mermaids of the Deep Blue, and Anna is stitching Emerald Mermaid.
Here’s where I left off last time (in November)…

And here’s what she looks like now…

As you can see, I am working on her hair still, filling it in. I don’t have any of my beads, treasures or Kreinik, so I’ll be saving those bits until last. I may purchase some of them next month to reward myself for making good progress on this piece.
Tomorrow night is my guild meeting, so I’ll be anxious to see which piece they choose for me to work on to finish this year. I will also be paying my deposit for our Catherine Theron workshop that we’ll be having in March. I am so looking forward to it, because it will be my very first workshop! She’ll be teaching her Williamsburg Remembered sewing book as well as her Quaker Sewing Case. I can’t wait!
Well, I think that’s all for me today…have a great week!
I am grateful for time at home.

You are stitching on two very beautiful projects. I love Tanya’s Jane Austen designs and want to stitch one myself this year.

Lovely stitching!!!
I love the quote in the JA piece – it’s exactly how I feel, especially in this cold, snowy weather we’ve had lately. 😀

I love the Jane Austen sampler and someday I plan on stitching this because that is the way I feel about my home and life 🙂
Your mermail will grow and grow under you’re skilled hands and I’ll be anxious to see her emerge!

Happy New Year Michelle! Your Jane Austen sampler is gorgeous – what beautiful stitching you are doing!
I will look forward to your progress on the mermaid, and I love your Red Thread. It looks like you have been enjoying your needlework.
Please send some cold weather my way. It was in the 60s today, and to me, that is way too warm for January.
