Honfleur

So, I took another little break from Hare Pyns. I know, I know…but I couldn’t stand it, I needed a break. When I got my SANQ Summer issue, I just knew I had to stitch the 1863 Honfleur Sampler, but Dona’s recent finish pushed me over the edge. I loved the color changes Dona made and I shamelessly copied her use of colors as well as using AVAS 100/3 like she did. Mine is stitched on 40ct Lambswool, because I happened to have some in my stash and I thought it would be a nice choice for this piece.

Stitching Lucie Beharel’s little sampler was very enjoyable. And although she stitched hers in Honfleur, this sampler reminds me of Rome. The cross flanked by candlesticks and flowers reminds me of St. Peter’s. When I took her photo, I included the rosary I brought home from St. Peter’s. It’s been tucked safely away in its little bag since then, but this piece looked like it was the perfect opportunity for a photo shoot with it!

My favorite motif is the anchor though – a symbol of hope. I can always use an extra bit of hope, can’t you?

I stitched the majority of this sampler while we were watching the second season of Rome, which is another reason I’m drawing that connection I’m sure. She was a sweet stitch and I enjoyed this sampler immensely.

Ok, ok. So now back to Hare Pyns.

I am grateful for some time off from work and a little finish.

  1. She is such a sweet little sampler! Wonderful colors and I love your rosary – a perfect accoutrement for that sampler. Congrats, and now back to the grindstone…

  3. Michelle, it’s so pretty! It looks so nice on the Lambswool. Your pictures of it are so clear!

I love your rosary, too. I have one from the Vatican which blessed by the Pope and it stays in its little bag, too.

So glad you were pleased with the thread colors. I agree – it was a sweet stitch.

  5. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!! I just love it. Gorgeous finish, Michelle. I need to get cracking on mine. I need to make myself work from one pile of things that I plan to do instead of going stash diving for more all the time.

Love the rosary that you have with your Honfleur sampler. My son brought me back a rosary from when he went to Rome, too, and it’s the one I use the most.

Congrats on the finish!! Now get back to that Hare Pyns… 😉

  9. Oh my what a beautiful finish! And I certainly love that gorgeous rosary! I daily use my grandmother’s rosary that a priest friend of hers gave her as a gift when he returned from Rome way back in the 1960’s.

  11. Just gorgeous, Michelle! I love it! Ok, after seeing your finish, and Dona’s, I may have to stitch this one. Sigh.

  13. Beautiful Honfleur! This caught my eye in SANQ and now that I see yours I think I’m going to have to kit it up and do it.

  15. Lovely! It’s always nice to have a quick finish when you’re working on one (or more!) big projects. You have inspired me to dig out my summer SANQ and look that little treasure up! Don’t forget to bring it to Guild for shown and tell!

  17. Congrats Michelle – very cute and don’t blame you taking a break…a little finish in between these big projects really keeps the mojo going. Great job on this little gem.
