Jenny and Jamie

So, I know you’ve been wondering what the heck happened to Jenny Bean and her little Halloween house, right? The last time I posted about her, was back in mid-November, when I was so restless.

Well, I finally got over my restlessness, and was anxious to get back to Miss Bean. But, stuff happened.

You know the kind of stuff I’m talking about, suddenly you have deadlines, holidays, places to go, tea to drink. I did finally get all those things done, and after Thanksgiving, I picked my new favorite piece back up.

20091212 IMG 5871

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this piece. It has been rare that a piece so completely captures my attention, so much so that I completely let go of all of my perfectionistic tendencies and just go with whatever flow Jenny saw fit to throw at me.

And, I think the reward is well worth every stitch.

Jenny Bean’s Halloween Sampler
Shakespeare’s Peddler
Limited Edition GAST Threads on 40 ct Pearled Barley
Begun 10/4/09 and Finished 12/12/09

Ignore the wonkiness of my border, etc. I still had this in my q-snaps when I took the photo, but I was too excited to share to even take her out and iron her. Jenny will be sorely missed. I had way too much fun stitching on her. I definitely think I’ll have to get the Christmas Sampler as well, because Halloween Jenny definitely needs Christmas Jenny as a companion.

Also this weekend, I had another finish.

Diana Gabaldon's Drums of Autumn hardback book

I finally finished re-reading Drums of Autumn. I may have mentioned previously that I decided to re-read this series, and Drums of Autumn is the last book in the series that I have previously read. Everything from this point forward will be all new territory for me. I picked this book up and set it down several times over the past few months. But, after finishing my last read, I picked this one back up. I was attempting to read ahead of my mom, before lending these to her, but she informed me recently she’s about to finish Voyager, which is the book before this one. I figured I’d better get my butt in gear. So, I picked this back up and somehow read the last 300+ pages in a week or so. Not sure how that happened, but it did. After finishing this book this morning, I realized why it is that this series is one of my absolute favorites. I own all of these in hardback, as they are most definitely staying in my library. The story of Jamie and Claire is not something you can easily forget, and their story stays with you long after the cover is closed. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series, and the next, and the one after that. If you haven’t read these books, drop everything you are doing and go directly to the bookstore to buy Outlander, the first in the series. Do nothing until you read that book. Then we’ll talk. Och, Jamie, you are one fine man.

Oh, and P.S. – the gorgeous red and white tree in my last post is not mine, but that of our hostess for the party, Ava. Don’t you love that tree?

I am grateful for a decorated home.

  1. Jenny is wonderful! Congrats on the finish.

I should be reading Echo in The Bone; but I don’t want to start it. Why? Because I’m weird. If I don’t start it, I won’t get to the end of it and it won’t be over. *sigh* I’m such a weirdo.

BTW, when are you starting Jenny B Christmas? 😉

  3. Congratulations on finishing Jenny Bean. Very well done.
I too am a huge fan of Jamie and Claire. I have read them all – the newest one I devoured in a very short time.

  5. I love Jenny Bean. I have not even started mine yet. Makes me want to start stitching this morning… I will have to check out these books. I have never heard of them. Thanks, April

  7. Jenny Bean looks fabulous – well done!

I think I’ll pass on the Diana Gabaldon – a friend whose taste I generally respect recommended them to me, but I found the first one rather ludicrous – but then I hate all this “och” Scottishness inserted into standard English – for me, you either write entirely in dialect (which would be unintelligle to most people and affect sales!) or entirely in standard English. I’m harsh :o)

  9. Okay, so as the page loaded (I have broadband but the slowest speed–urgh), I see the title, and I thought, “Oh darn. I thought she’d have Jenny finished! Maybe she had visitors.”. Then I realized, “Oh no, wait! It’s Jenny Bean and Outlander Jamie!”. ROFLOL CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so psyched for you. Two fabulous finishes. 🙂 I can’t wait to start Jenny Bean… hopefully soon. I have Outlander on audio, just have to get it started. I read it years ago but want to read the whole series.

    Anyhoo, congrats! YGG!

  13. Your JB is just gorgeous! As you know, your prior posts inspired me to buy it. I haven’t started yet and I only hope that mine ends up looking half as good as yours!

Oh my, oh my, Michelle. I can see why you are so enamored with Jenny & (Jamie, too BTW!). What a cool sampler, and your photos are stunning. So sharp and clear.
I also saw some awesome ornaments in your last post. I don’t know how you could choose.
Very fun posts, both of them.

  19. Jenny is beautiful! I agree… you need to get her Christmas sampler too.

I’m currently listening to The Outlanders, from audible.com. I read the book many years ago… and it’s so fun getting reacquainted with Claire and Jamie once again, especially Jamie. lol

  21. Michelle, Jenny is just wonderful! I really do like this pattern – I have mine piled in with my stash but will probably wait ’til next year to pull it out.

    Enjoy your week!

  23. Jenny Bean is gorgeous!!! I can so see you needing a day or two to start working on something else.

The red tree is gorgeous but I kept thinking that doesn’t look like a Michelle tree, LOL. I am almost glad to find out it’s not yours ;-).

  25. Your Jenny Bean is wonderful – I have to agree Jamie is more wonderful! I am not a reader but I blazed thru Outlander and had to promise myself only one chapter – only ONE chapter and then I had to go to bed – sweet dreams I can assure you LOL – I got almost to the end of Dragonfly in Amber and just stopped reading – that was about 5 years or more ago – I’ve only read one book since then – light reading – cute book called Garden Spells. At this point – I will wait till next summer to start her. Thanks for sharing Jenny and Jamie! Melody

  27. Jenny looks wonderful! I think the Jenny Bean samplers will by Christmas gift to myself LOL.

You have some marvelous times ahead of you in the Jamie & Claire saga. I have some vague plans to re-read the entire series in 2010. After finishing Echo in the Bone, I want to go back and enjoy the whole series again to distract me from waiting on the next installment 😉

  29. Hey Girlfriend,

Bring your Jennie Bean on Thursday so we can ooh and ahh over it!! Looking forward to a nice stitching time with friends.

Now…the real question is….why hasn’t the Outlander Series been filmed? Who will play Jamie and Clair? This is a discussion that could go on and on…but these books have been around long enough to have someone decide to do a movie or mini-series!

    Keep on Stitching.

    Gloria
