Yesterday began the Chinese New Year and this year is the year of the Boar or Pig. There are twelve animals that make up the Chinese zodiac, and also four elements associated with each animal. Every sixty years, you will have a specific animal and a specific element represented. For example, my grandmother was born in the year of the Metal Boar, as was I. This year marks the beginning of a Fire Boar year. You can read more about Boars and their (my) attributes here, if you’re interested.
I am off to a good start for the New Year, as I have finished stitching on Allie’s RR. She asked us to stitch smalls that will sit on her great great grandmother’s table she inherited. So, I chose to stitch the needlebook. I stitched motifs from Nan’s Garden. I just love the little lattice-work archway, and the little over one bees. I really hope Allie likes it.

The fabric Allie chose is a beautiful soft sage green, not grey like it looks here.

Here is the card case that will be housing the cards Allie asked each of us to write a little something on.

It will be beautiful when all the pieces are finished and assembled. I hope that Allie shares a pic when she’s done! With my Just Nan RR piece finished, I am back to my rotation. So tonight I will be stitching on Baby Garden. I only got one night of stitching in on this before the situation with Hamlet came to a head. So, I am glad to get back to working on it. I hope to have a worthwhile progress pic to show soon. I got my annual review at work today, and did very well. I will be receiving my bonus on Friday, so I have big plans for the portion of it that I get to play with. Think cold nights, Faberge and Catherine the Great…. I can hardly wait!
Walk to Rivendell: Still going down the hill. (Total Miles Walked: 30.5)
I am grateful for a job well done.
What a gorgeous idea for a RR. It’s going to be stunning 🙂
I had a look at the Chinese zodiac – very interesting. I knew I was a sheep but not what the characteristics were. Spot on. And I didn’t know about the elements. I’m a Fire Sheep, which is interesting given my love of red 🙂 Thanks for the link!

You’ve done some lovely stitching recently Michelle 🙂 I also checked out my attributes – I’m a wood tiger, very interesting (and quite true some of them, lol)

Catching on your blog today Michelle – so many lovely projects! I love the Lemon Meringue Sampler, have never seen it before, and your Valentines tree is so cute! I’ve never stitched a piece where you let the threads hang but I’m interested in trying it sometime. Thanks for so many good ideas!

Very nice stitching Michelle – I think what you chose to stitch goes very nicely with what was already there. It really is coming along beautifully. 🙂
