Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful celebration and rang in 2008 with much joy. Eric and I spent the evening with Dick Clark (or more truthfully with Ryan Seacrest). We had a wonderful champagne that Eric found that is the most gorgeous color! It looked so pretty in my Millennium flutes. New Year’s Day I had intended to plant myself on the couch, watch the Rose Parade and stitch. Alas, someone (you know who) decided that it would be a great time to take down the Christmas decorations. So, I only managed to sit and watch thirty minutes of the parade. But, I made my new start anyway. Can you guess what it is? You’re right – Mermaids of the Deep Blue! I wanted to treat myself to a fun new start. Anna is going to join me in a mermaid SAL with her own lovely gal.

I’ve made precious little progress on my turtledove as well, but all it is lacking is the words and holly in the borders. Soon I’ll have a finish I’m sure!

Also, the day before the holiday I received a lovely package in the mail. I won a giveaway on Wawanna‘s blog, and she sent the beautiful beaded set you see here and a great tool for frogging (which I hope I won’t need!). Thank you so much Wawanna, they are beautiful!

And of course, one of my favorite things about the new year is that I get to hang up a new calendar. (I love calendars, it’s a little obsession of mine!!) This is my new Susan Branch calendar. Since I’ve been spending some time making my house into a home, I thought Susan’s calendar would be a good cozy reminder. Last year I had an autographed Selina Fenech mermaid calendar. That was fun.

That’s all for me today. I spent my first day at home alone today, and worked on resumes/cover letters. I had to take Eric to the eye doctor this afternoon, so he is sitting in the living room with his sunglasses on because his eyes are dilated. I wonder if I’ll be able to turn on my stitching lamp? Hmmm. Hope you’re having a great week and relaxing after your holiday festivities. I’m working on getting through my blog feeds, so have patience with me!
Oh and you may notice I’ve updated my sidebar to include a link to my post about my plan for 2008, and I’ve got placeholders for my 2008 finishes!
I am grateful for my sweet friend Pam and all her wisdom and comfort.
What a cheerful post 🙂
I look very forward to watching your mermaids grow…I’m not a mermaid type of gal, myself, but if I were one…these would be the ones I would stitch…they are truly spectacular when finished 🙂 SO GOOD luck!
I hope that you get to turn your stitching light on!

Hi Michelle,
You’ve made AMAZING progress on your turtledove, omg, all over one! Geesh, you’re fast 🙂
Yes, I do believe we’re neighbors! Maybe someday we can meet at Aidaworks for some shopping together.
I LOVE the Susan Branch calendars this year and have three of them, the big and small wall calendars and the one that stands up, whatever that one is called. And my daily planner is Mary Engelbreit 🙂
Happy 2008! That champagne looks delish!

The turtledove is so pretty! I saw the Susan Branch calender but I already had the Kim Jacobs so I had to pass. Tempting though!

I was going to say how great the turtledoves are coming along, but then OMYGOD! That’s the Lizzie*Kate I stitched hanging right next to the calendar; it’s hanging in your house. Thanks! Be honest, did you stage that? (I have a post in my head about that very issue from when we visited England.) Congrats on the win. Good stuff.

Happy New Year to you, Michelle! What is that fabric you are using for ‘Mermaids?’It is a beautiful shade of blue. And your turtle dove is lovely, too. In fact, all was nice in this post! And don’t you just love Susan Branch? I always enjoy going back and reading her wonderful cookbooks ~ there’s so much more than cooking to be found in them!

Happy New Year to you, Michelle! What lovely pictures you have posted, I am so impressed, & will enjoy the mermaid progress. Don’t know how it happened, I seem to mostly stitch samplers but I LOVE to see things that are non-sampler. Keep us up to date! Happy you liked the Fob set & Mr. Froggy-Do-Little!

Hi Michelle,
I’m so woefully behind in my commenting thanks to the holidays, and a nasty bout of flue. So I’ve been reading your blog through and catching up on all your news.
I am so very sorry about Hamlet. It’s devastating to loose a much loved pet and companion. Hopefully Othello and Romeo are helping to make the pain easier to bear. They always seem to know when we need them most, don’t they?
And I hope that things are going well with Romeo and his diabetes. Did he have any symptoms that something was wrong before the blood work was done??
Good luck with the job hunting. Hope that you find something that really sparks your interest, challenges you, and pays you a whole wack of money… 🙂
You got some lovely stash for Christmas. I just got the Token as well. Love these Quaker designs. And A Forest Grew is an interesting design, with all those different trees. I loved reading Carols blog and seeing her piece coming to life under her needle. It looks like a big project though.
Congrats on finishing all those Shepherd Bush Christmas designs. That’s quite an accomplishment.
Your turtledove project is looking beautiful. So much detail, you must have a ton of patience to do it, but it’s certainly worth it in the end.
Good luck with Mermaids of the Deep Blue. That’s another popular design, and justly so. I look forward to watching your progress on it.
Warmest best wishes to you and Eric for the New Year Michelle.
Cheers!

Great New York pics! Thanks for sharing.
I’ve got a ‘thing’ for calendars too, lol. That’s a great one and I’ll have to see if I can find a similar one for next year because we’re hopfully moving house this year and it’s my intention to make it totally ‘homely’ and nest-like because this house we’re in at the moment is hated.
