From the 2007 JCS Ornament Issue
DMC on 32ct Everglade from Silkweaver
Finished 4/16/08
I’ve finished the stitching on my first ornament! I am so pleased with how it turned out. I’m not going to worry too much about doing the finishing on it for now, I’ll probably get a few ornaments done and then do a mass finishing day. At least my tree will have one hand-stitched ornament on it! I finished this Wednesday night, and dove right into my next one last night.

This is Snow Bunnies by LHN from the same JCS issue (2007).

I’m stitching this one on Silkweaver’s Smoky Blue. Love it so far. It’s a change from all the greens. I had kind of a rough evening yesterday, so stitching on something fun and small like this was exactly what I needed.

And since Christmas seems to be on my mind, I decided to work a little on putting together my Shepherd’s Bush ornament wallhanging. I finally got around to purchasing fabric for it when I bought the backing fabric for the wedding quilt. I’ve made a little start on the sewing and I think I’ve decided on a layout. I’m trying to decide how I want to finish off the top and the bottom. I’m trying to think a little outside the box, and not do the same wallhanging finish I’ve done twice. I’m sort of throwing around the idea of attaching ribbon to the top so that I can attach it to the hanging rod by tying little bows. I’m also considering adding some little silver bells to the bottom (since it has the silver charms on it, I thought the bells might pick up on that). I’m trying to think “Shepherd’s Bush-y”. Any thoughts? I really love how the ornaments look though – I am so happy I took that project on and stitched all eight of them to go together!

Romeo was helping. He sat on the windowsill over my craft table.
I went ahead and made a little bit of a splurge too. Since (I understand) Just Nan is only going to be putting out one more Limited Edition WhimZi this year, and I’m on automatics for those…I decided to sign up for the automatics for her Over the Top/In the Tin series. The first of four should be on its way to me soon.

Cute, huh?

On Monday I went to the local Quilt Guild meeting, as a visitor. It was really fun and I am thinking about joining. I am also thinking about visiting the local EGA Chapter to see what it is like. I figured it would be a great way to meet some like-minded people, or at least people who like to craft! I am really feeling the pull to get some more of my quilting done. We haven’t planned anything this weekend, so I am hoping to be able to spend some time with my sewing machine. Hopefully I’ll get my SB wallhanging finished! Next on my list after that is to put the binding on my $5 quilt that I had quilted at the end of last year and finish it up. Don’t worry though, my stitching won’t suffer! Oh, and I managed to finish up Barbara’s prize for my 250th post giveaway (about time I know) and it is winging its way to her now! I hope you like it, Barbara! Have a great weekend and enjoy your stitching!
I am grateful for renewed interest in quilting.
I like the way the Shepherd’s Bush finish looks so far! The only “SB” finishing I can think of would be to dangle different sized jingle bells (sticking with your idea) from different lengths of black ribbon stitched to the bottom. (Do you see what I mean?) I got out to a stitchy group myownself last night. Report soon.

So many lovely things to look at here today 🙂
Your ornament is lovely, nice finish and nice start on the next one, what a pretty fabric!
I love your SB wallhanging-to-be and the silver bells are a wonderful idea! I was only thinking about these ornaments today – I’ve only stitched 2 so far and would really like to get them all stitched and finished up this year. I might steal the bells idea if you don’t mind, although I shall be doing a slightly different finishing.
Have a wonderful weekend, Michelle!

I need to get some ornaments started soon! I would love to have a tree covered in hand-made ornaments some day! Plus finishing little things makes you feel like you’re accomplishing something really fast! Your projects look great!! And I love the tin!

Hi Michelle,
First I have to tell you how incredible I think your wedding quilt is. I love it. What a tremendous gift to make for your DH, and for yourself. Far better then the standard guest book that usually gets thrown in a drawer and forgotten. The design, and the colours that you chose are beautiful.
And then there’s the Shepherd’s Bush Christmas ornaments which are also going to look amazing when you’ve finished putting them all together. You’ve got such a great eye for quilting Michelle.
Your finish of Peace is very pretty. Gotta love those CCN and LHN designs.
I’m looking forward to seeing your progress on Queen of the Needle. I really love this design and the colours it’s stitched with, as well as that pretty pink checkerboard material.
Loved the picture of Romeo supervising your crafting. He’s a handsome cat.
Best wishes to you and Eric for your second wedding anniversary. May you have many more!!!
Cheers!

Your wedding quilt is stunning!! Love Barnabee’s quest–I always forget just how nice JNs are until I see them stitched. The plans for your SB finishing sounds great–love the idea of the bells. Your ornament finishes are wonderful, too. I need to get working on some ornaments. YGG!

Peace is beautiful and I like your start to Snow Bunnies. The SB wall hanging is going to look really nice when it’s all finished. I like the Just Nan Over the Top/In the Tin series, too, but can’t really justify any more new charts and kits when I can’t get through what I have. 🙂 I am sure you’ll enjoy stitching them up, as they look like they’ll go pretty fast. Good for you for getting out to a meeting. I need to find some stitchers to hang out with, if possible.

You’re going to be my inspiration though, because I always wondered how to finish them up….perfect idea!
