Second Thoughts

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…oh wait…no just in this galaxy…I started stitching Teresa Wentzler’s Wedding Sampler for Eric and I. I love this design and have had it in my stash for a long time, just waiting. I started stitching on it, and something just kept me doubting it was the right choice for us. My friend, Sherri, just finished stitching this for herself and seeing it finished in person was amazing. It is such a beautiful piece. But, she said something about it that made me pause. She said she loved it because it was exactly her wedding colors, very soft and Victorian-looking. That’s when it hit me…I realized that although I love this sampler, it in no way reflects mine and Eric’s wedding, or us. Our wedding was mainly done in reds. My bridesmaids wore red, and I carried red roses. The bridesmaids carried beautiful sort of “apple green/kiwi green” flowers. My dress was embroidered with gold. Our wedding was what I would think of as “elegant European” if I had to put a name on it. Very grand. While I love the TW sampler, it in no way reflects the feel of our wedding. So, I am on the hunt for a new wedding sampler, or something that can be converted to a wedding sampler. So, here is where I ask for your help. I would appreciate any suggestions that you can think of for an appropriate wedding piece. I’ve done some looking around, and found a few things…but nothing that floats Eric’s boat. So, I am sort of at a loss.

And in other stitching news, I stitched on my HAED piece last night for the Wednesday SAL on the HAED BB. I finished up the 10 x 10 block that I had started on Friday, and got almost half of another done. I am getting very close to hitting the edge of my page across the top of my chart. How exciting it will be to start on the second row of 10 x 10s! Here’s my progress as of last night when the Sopranos ended on A&E.

Here’s a link to what the finished piece will look like. Go to Quick Stitches, then Sara Butcher, then scroll down to Water ACEO. I just love this piece. I have the other three elements in my stash to do as well: air, earth and fire. I may do fire next since I am a fire sign. Oh, and my box of bobbins worked really well for sorting my thread for this piece. I am so glad I decided to do that…the plastic Ziplock bags were a nightmare!

I am looking forward to stitching some more on Barnabee tonight. Hopefully I can make more progress than last week. We’ll see! Hope you’re all having a great week. I am hoping to get my February sheep blanket finished by this weekend as well as my Valentine’s project.

I am grateful for my silky long hair.

  1. Is there anyway you could incorporate the colors of your wedding into the TW? It’s gorgeous 🙂

Can’t wait to see how Barnabee comes along 🙂

And I bet you have beautiful long silky hair!

  2. The start on your TW is beautiful, it’s too bad you’ve realized it won’t fit for you and your husband. Your HAED is coming along nicely.

  3. That’s a great start on the sampler. Vonna’s suggestion sounds interesting!

I would love to see your silky long hair 🙂

  4. I don’t have any suggestions for a replacement wedding sampler, but I do love the idea and may “steal” it when I get the last of the kids’ samplers done. 😉

  5. Isn’t TW’s wedding sampler stunning??? So since you’re not going to stitch it for yourself, what are you going to do with it?

  6. I’m stitching Papillon Creations Love with a Capital L. I’ve switched the colours in the chart pic out for our wedding colours (red and dark grey). There’s a picture in the sidebar on my blog if you want to see how it looks. (My bridesmaids will be in red dresses, too!)

  7. How about changing the colors on the TW?
Other patterns that come to mind:
Drawn Thread: Marriage of the Minds
Maybe go on Hoffmandis and do a search for Marriage, Wedding, Bride etc.?
Good luck on your search! Can’t wait to see what you and your hunny pick 🙂

  8. Hi Michelle~ Thanks for visiting my blog! Its too bad you have decided that TW’s Wedding Sampler won’t work for you. The suggestion about the colour change is a good idea if you are inspired that way. But there are a lot of great wedding pieces out there…keep looking and I’m sure you’ll find one that fits you perfectly!

  9. Hmmm….. Have you looked at some of the European designers to see if there’s something you could add your names to? My favourite is A Mon Ami Pierre Some of those designs would look lovely in red with maybe a few gold accents.

Or, maybe Long Dog Sampler’s The Token? I’m doing this in red for our 10th anniversary (last year)
