Sparkle

Bite Me

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day yesterday. Mine was lovely, although busy doing things around the house in preparation for stuff going on later this week. Anyway, a while back, Gloria treated me with a box of Twilight conversation hearts. Love. Them. What better combination could there be, in fact? Conversation hearts are one of my very favorite things. And even better, the Twilight hearts were sparkly. And if you visit this site, you can make your own conversation heart. They even have goth hearts for those who hate Valentine’s Day. I made my own…

How fun is that? Too bad I can’t buy a whole bag of goth conversation hearts. Because there’s nothing better for an emo day than massive amounts of sugar. Am I right? But, seriously, Eric treated me very well on V-Day, and I reciprocated with food. That I cooked. Really. And, yes, he is still alive, thankyouverymuch.

So, not much time for stitching this weekend. In fact on Saturday, I left my house at 8:15am and didn’t return until about 7:30pm, was home for two hours and then left again, not returning until nearly 2am. But, I had fun! So, last night I finally had time to sit a bit and stitch. Eric and I watched the first four hours of 24, and although Jack Bauer was doing his best to distract me, I got a bit done.

You may remember a while back, I mentioned I was going to be starting BBD’s Where My Heart Blooms with Joy’s conversion to Belle Soie on 36ct Meadow Rue?

And then you may remember that I started stitching and then ran into the pink roof debacle? Apparently Belle Soie can’t be counted on for consistency in dye lots. So, my Sister Scarlet was way pinker than one might expect from a silk named as such. What to do? What to do?

I decided to rip out my roof, and get rid of the pink portions of the thread, and only use the redder parts. It’s a pain to have to cut around the pink, but the best solution I think. So, out came the pink, and in went the red. I finished that up and managed to get one stitch of the next color in before it was time to call it quits. One stitch, literally. Anyway, here’s how it looks now. Please keep in mind the color on this photo is way off, but you get the idea.

I have a sneaky suspicion that there won’t be any stitching the next few days either, as I’ve got a jam-packed schedule. And speaking of jam-packed…I think for a short month, February really is taking the cake this year! Olympics, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, President’s Day…

Oh, and we can’t forget Mardi Gras tomorrow!

Mardi Gras

Until next time, dear readers!

I am grateful for a fun Saturday afternoon with my friends and a husband who spoils me.

  1. Sounds like you’ve been having fun Michelle! 🙂 I think your idea of cutting round the pink thread is probably better than trying to find an alternative – I like what you’ve done so far! Have a great week!

  5. Busy, busy girl!!

The conversation hearts look fun – I’ve never seen sparkly ones before!

What a pain to have to cut out the pink, but it looks good and you didn’t have to go searching for something else!

  7. Love that Vampires Rule Heart. My DD would love one of those since she’s such a Twilight Fan. I can’t believe you cut all that pink out and started over. You’re a better woman than I – I probably would have thrown it across the room!

  9. What a pain to have to snip out the pink parts of the thread! But the results look good at least! Beautiful so far! That’s fun that you can make those conversation hearts! Do they really come in black? lol! You’re quite right about February being packed. And this week is school break! AAaack! lol! Have a good week!

  11. What a PITA having to unstitch… but your roof looks great now!
Hang in there… soon the testing and classes will be over.

  13. HI Michelle 😀

I’m not in the US so I’ve not seen those conversation hearts before. Are they shop bought or did Gloria make them ‘Twilight-y’ herself? Very cool, either way 😀

  15. Love what you did with the heart.
I agree it will be a PITA to only use the red but it will be so pretty when finished. Happy Mardi Gras Day! Party on

  17. I love those sparkly Twilight conversation hearts too! I got a box of them last year and hid them in the “perfect place” Those little gems weren’t for eating, lol!! Apparently my hidey hole wasn’t all that perfect… Leah found them and turned her puppy dog eyes on her daddy and I came home to an empty box, and a child with a tummy ache, lol!

Glad you had a great weekend!!

  21. Sounds like you’ve been busy! It’s a hassle cutting out the pink part, done that myself with other colours at times, but your roof is looking good!

  27. I’m glad you were able to pull out the roof threads without having to take out everything! Always a exercise in patience for me! I do like the Belle Soie thread colors, but didn’t the dye lots varied so.

    Cool candy hearts!

  29. Love your roof, looks very nice and red :-).

Cute conversation hearts. Funny side note, my DH’s favorite candy is the large Brachs hearts. We stock up at Valentines.

  31. The roof looks much better; I hope you’re happy with it now. I hate having to fiddle with overdyed threads like that, but sometimes it’s a necessary evil. And inconsistency in dye lots is a real pet peeve of mine. Sorry to hear that the Belle Soie silks fall into that category, as well.

  33. I too have had to “selectively” use a variable thread to get the look I wanted. Your roof looks just fine. And lucky you getting such a cute scarf as a gift!
