The Last of Summer

It hardly seems possible that Labor Day is now behind us and it’s September.  I’ve been working on a little project as sort of a last hurrah of summer.  It’s Chessie & Me’s Glory House.  Sweet little thing, isn’t it?

And you may be wondering what I’ve been up to, since I haven’t blogged in a bit?  Well, I had a birthday.  And my birthday was full of fun celebrations with friends and family.  You can see a little recap in photos over on the other blog.  But I just had to share a few of the wonderful gifts I received.

Sylvia made me this sweet stitching wallet.  I am in love with the Paris fabric!

Here’s a peek at the inside…

And she must have gotten tired of me bugging her about the fabulous fingerless gloves with owls on them that she made for her daughter a while back.  So she made some for me!!!!  I LOVE THEM! (And in case you’re wondering…I’m modeling them with my blue moon manicure in honor of the blue moon that was on August 31st).

I was also treated to a day of wonderful food, laughter, stitching and a little Downton Abbey by some friends.  One of them stitched this sweet Needlework Press piece for me.  I am in love with the color thread she used.

A little closeup…

I have lots more to show you, but I’m attempting to not overload you with photos!  So, here’s a quick peek at what I’ve been working on. I’ve found it difficult to settle in and stitch lately, but I’ve been working a little bit on my John Reed sampler.  I’m working my way across the top border.  I love love love how the AVAS silks are popping on that Confederate Grey linen.

It’s been awhile since I showed you ATS too.  Not a lot of progress.  I stitched that strawberry band and have started on the alphabet.

Tuesday night I picked up the pre-stitching for a class I’m taking in October with Betsy Morgan of Willing Hands. I’m excited about this one.

It’s Betsy’s Elizabethan Casket Etui. Here’s a look at the full project.

That’s it for me today.  I’ll post again soon with some other birthday pretties I received, a new quilt start, and hopefully some more stitching progress!  Thanks, as always, for stopping by.  I really appreciate it!

I am grateful for another amazing year.

  1. Wonderful gifts! I love them all, especially the fingerless mitts as I enjoy making & wearing them every winter. ATS is looking great and your class piece seems to be fun, too. I’m so glad to see out long summer is almost over now…

  7. Happy, happy birthday, Michelle! I’m so curious to see more progress on John Reed. He’s been on my waiting list for far too long. Thanks for the inspiration!

Your gifties – and your firends – are the very best!

  11. Love all your goodies. I stitched Glory House this summer and instead of my initials I stitched 1776. Had it framed in a cool blue frame that matched the blue of the house. I love it!

  15. Happy belated birthday, Michelle! Love the fingerless owl gloves – too cute.

Don’t remind me that we are coming to the end of summer – it doesn’t feel like it with temperatures in the triple digits over the weekend!

  17. Great post! Happy Birthday ~ belated! Love all of your goodies and stitches! I need to find someone to make me a pair of those gloves ~ they would be great for the late fall and early spring baseball games, keeping my hands warm while still leaving my fingers out to work my camera!!

  19. Wow, what fantastic gifts!! I love that stitching wallet fabric. I’m using the map fabric as a background fabric for my basket blocks, which has my younger DD asking if I can have the quilt when I pop my clogs. LOL Your nails look great, btw!
